Whenever I look at a new blog, I always go to the About page. I want to see who’s writing. I even want to see a picture or two. How old is this person? What sex? What does he or she do for fun? For money? So, maybe people want to see that stuff on my blog. Maybe.
So here’s my About page. No pics yet.
My name is Rob. Yep.
I was born in 1969, so in 2007 I turned 38. Of course, this blog will be around for 50 to 1000 years, so those of you reading this decades or centuries from 2007 will have to do math. I’m sorry, but I’m also happy to have helped in the education of future generations.
I work as a Technical Editor (and writer) at a mid-sized, well-known, tech/communications company. What the hell is a tech editor? Come on, now, it’s decades (or centuries!) from 2007 and you don’t even know how to find information using the super-interconnected-netweb? Go look it up.
I’ve got a degree in English from the University of Georgia, which is apparently a pretty good school these days. But back in 1987 they were letting in the likes of me, which shows that even universities can have skeletons in their closets.
I’ve traveled a ton, but these days more or less stay home, excepting visits to the family (Seattle, DC, and my wife’s native home: Australia).
I’ve written a ton, but never published anything for money except tech writing stuff (which, hey, in my case means that millions of people have read my writing). You can see some of my for-fun writing if you want to torture yourself:
Item one: This is a round robin writing story that a few writerly friends and I did. We took turns writing a paragraph or two, then turned it over to the next person. You can see who did what in reverse chronological order here, or just read the whole story here.
Item two: Way back in November of 2007, I participated in NaNoWriMo. You can learn more about it, and see some of what I wrote here.
I read a ton. Lots of non-fiction (over a ridiculously wide range of topics), the occasional classic, the occasional beach read. You can see my more or less up-to-date library on LibraryThing, here.
[Which reminds me. You can buy me a gift from my Amazon.com wish list:

Hobbies. Hmm. Writing, reading. We’ve already covered that. I do love technology and such, so I spend a lot of time on my beautiful Mac. I love movies. Should I list my favorites? Nah. And I like to play around with editing video. Weird, huh? Blogging, if that’s a hobby.
I’m married to Pauline, a woman I met in 1995 who’s even more beautiful than my Mac.
I have a daughter named Piper, who was born in 2007. (More math.) Piper is beautiful, too.
And I have a son named Ed. He was born in 2009. He’s a beauty, too, of course.
Oh, I live in Atlanta, where I was raised, and where I have lots of family.
You can follow me on twitter. I’m weeklyrob there, too.
So I think that covers my About page. Congratulations for reaching the bottom of it!
Hi Rob:
I like your introduction. It helped me know more about you than the fact that you like squirrels. I am a wordsmith too, with a journalism degree and a love of technology. I didn’t know we had this in common when I started following you on Twitter. Glad I came to check out the blog.
Good luck to you. Piper is cute.
