Steve! I Don’t Think You’re Spam!
I get a ton of spam comments to this blog. I don’t know why. I don’t get very many real comments, but somehow the spammers hit me with about 80 a week.
So I have moderation set. If you’ve commented before, then you can comment again without having to wait for moderation. But if you haven’t commented before, then your comment goes into a queue, which I forget to check for many days at a run.
Then, I wade through all the spam to hopefully find a real comment from a real person. I publish the real comment, then click a button that marks all the rest as spam and deletes them.
As I clicked the button today, I saw, mixed in with all the spam, an actual comment from my Internet friend, known to me mainly as The Hulk, but sometimes as Steve. And then, while I screamed NOOOOOOOooooooo… it disappeared forever.
I clicked the Back button, but the page just refreshed. No help from the cache. The comment was gone. And worse, I have no idea whether marking Steve as spam means that he’ll go on some blacklist, never to work in Hollywood again. I hope not.
